FOR RELEASE
February 18, 2004: ARAMARK
Launches New Microfiber-Based Cleaning Service For
Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities
BURBANK,CA.,
February 18, 2004 ARAMARK (NYSE:RMK), a world leader in managed
services, has launched a new rental service program using microfiber-based
cleaning products geared to hospitals and healthcare facilities, it was
announced today. The program, offered through ARAMARK Uniform Services,
combines the companys award-winning service with the latest microfiber
mop and high duster technology.
"Our
new microfiber rental program provides the technology and service delivery
to help hospitals better control infection, improve productivity, and
reduce workers compensation claims," said Steve Donly, president
of ARAMARK Uniform Services. "We have perfected the microfiber laundering
process to enable our mops and dusters to deliver the products superior
cleaning outcomes throughout its life-cycle."
A critical
success factor to using microfiber cleaning technology is the proper laundering
of the microfiber materials. If laundered improperly, the fibers will
also trap bi-products such as cotton and lint which impede the performance
and useful life of microfiber.
ARAMARKs
new program solves this problem by collecting the soiled units, cleaning
them, using the companys time tested cleaning process, and then
returning them for reuse. Product quantity and service frequency is customized
to each facilitys cleaning needs. Mop and high duster heads can
last up to 500 washings and have been proven to be more cost effective
than traditional cleaning processes.
Microfibers
are densely constructed nylon fibers that are approximately 1/16 the thickness
of a human hair. The tiny fibers penetrate the microscopic pores of most
flooring materials and the density of the material enables ARAMARKs
mops to hold six times their weight in water, making them more absorbent
than conventional products.
The positively
charged microfibers in the companys high dusters are designed to
attract dust (which has a negative charge). The microfiber cleaners
tiny fiber pockets trap dust, dirt, pollen, mites, grime and bacteria.
"ARAMARKs
service program is for healthcare facilities that have replaced the traditional
mop and bucket approach with microfiber cleaning," Donly said. "Results
from the companys pilot program show superior cleaning effectiveness
as well as increased productivity and improved job satisfaction among
hospital cleaning staff."

ARAMARK
Uniform Services Microfiber Products Shine In U.S. Hospitals
BURBANK,
Calif., February 18, 2004
The success of ARAMARK Uniform Services new microfiber rental service
is built on two key principles ARAMARK Uniform Services world-renowned
customer service, and contemporary microfiber-based cleaning products,
including flat mops and high dusters.
ARAMARK Uniform
Services microfiber lightweight mop handle/frame is the most effective
floor cleaning tool available today. At 20 ounces, this 60-inch, lightweight,
aluminium construction flat mop weighs a fraction of conventional mops.
The pivoting frame design allows the mop to get into tight or hard-to-reach
areas easily.
The microfiber
replaceable mop head features densely-woven microfiber fabric and cleans
more effectively than a regular loop mop, requiring far less water and
disinfectant. The thin microfibers trap dirt and germs that regular mops
leave behind, and when changed between rooms, this mop head will help
eliminate cross contamination problems.
The high
duster is a fast and easy way to clean hard-to-reach surfaces. The adjustable
duster arm can be easily angled to clean high horizontal surfaces. The
positive static charge of the microfiber sleeves attracts fine dust and
dirt (which has a negative static charge) like a magnet. The unit measures
30 inches and weighs 7 oz.

FOR
RELEASE February 18, 2004:
Microfiber
FAQs
What
is microfiber?
Microfibers are densely constructed, polyester and polyamide (nylon) fibers
that are approximately 1/16 the thickness of a human hair. The density
of the material enables it to hold six times its weight in water, making
it more absorbent than conventional products.
Is
microfiber a proprietary product of ARAMARK?
No. Microfiber is commercially available in a wide range of products,
from clothing to cleaning.
What's
unique about ARAMARK's microfiber service?
ARAMARK is the first managed services provider in the industry to offer
customers a comprehensive microfiber solution. Microfiber requires special
laundering and drying procedures, and ARAMARK is one of a handful of large
scale managed services providers who is capable of servicing customers'
needs on a large scale basis through their rental services program.
How
do microfiber cleaning products differ from traditional products?
Traditional cleaning products, such as loop mops and cloth rags, can become
carriers and of bacteria, germs and other contaminants. When a loop mop
or cloth rag is dipped back into cleaning solution and re-applied to the
floor or surface, germs can be passed along. Microfiber cleaning products
are not re-dipped into solution. The mop heads and high duster heads are
kept in a cleaning solution until ready for use, then attached using Velcro.
Once the area is cleaned, the soiled microfiber head is removed, and a
new one attached. Additional benefits include less use of water and chemicals
and a potential reduction in worker compensations claims due to slipping
in wet areas and lifting heavy buckets.
What
are the cost savings for using a microfiber cleaning system over traditional
cleaning practices?
Since microfiber is relatively new to the hospital facilities industry,
conclusive research studies have not been done. However, initial studies
in test markets show that, over the long run, microfiber products can
save a hospital almost $40 per 100 rooms cleaned, including costs for
the mop, labor, chemicals, water and washing. (Note Ð actual savings would
be greater, since the $40 amount does not include savings cost for water
used. Microfiber methods use much less water than traditional cleaning
methods).
What
other managed services companies offer a microfiber service?
At this time, none. ARAMARK is the first company to develop the infrastructure,
and one of the few companies in the industry with the capacity to service
microfiber customers on a large scale basis.
